Cefic highlights potential of chemical recycling
The European Chemical Council, Cefic, considers that chemical recycling of plastic waste (to produce new chemicals and plastics) can contribute to the circular economy, in complement to mechanical and dissolution recycling of plastics. Advantages are that high quality new materials can be produced, and that so-called legacy chemicals and substances of very high concern can be removed from end-of-life plastics. Cefic calls for collaboration across industry on chemical recycling, an enabling policy framework and harmonised standards and definitions.
